Strand of big old fake amber beads from morocco.
Color: Shades of dark red
Origin: Morocco, Berber
These Faux Amber beads are artificially made from phenolic resin or casein, which is a derivative from milk converted into a type of celluloid. They are not real amber, which is petrified resin from trees. Fake amber resembles natural amber, but it’s not real amber.
Such beads were individually handmade and traded in Africa.
Amber necklaces belong to the most striking jewelry in morocco. In the past real amber was used, which has been replaced by faux amber in the mid of the 20. century. Such necklaces are especially popular amongst the Berber tribes of the north african mountains, where they are inherited from one generation to the next to show status and wealth.
